Class Information

*Below are descriptions of various classes offered by the Art Institute of McKinney during past sessions. Please see the AIM Homepage or Class Schedule for current class listings.

Preschool - Ages 3-5
45 minutes - 6 weeks/$100
Weekly session that introduces color, elements of art, art history, and a variety of materials.
 
Homeschool - Classes may have a wide range of ages
1 hour - 6 weeks/$100
Weekly session with projects focusing on technique and art connections to other disciplines.
 
Kids - Elementary age children
1 hour - 6 weeks/$100
Weekly session exploring interdisciplinary connections, including seasonal work and art history in a variety of media.
 
Kids Painting - Elementary age children
1 or 1.5 hours - 6 weeks/$130
Weekly session focusing on painting fundamentals: color theory, techniques, and composition
 
Kids Drawing 1 & 2 - Ages 7 and up
1 hour - 6 weeks/$100
Weekly session focusing on drawing fundamentals: line, shadow, perspective, and proportion.
 

Mask Making for Children - Ages 6 and up
1 hour - 6 weeks
Children will make plaster masks from their very own faces (prepare to get messy)! Masks make wonderful keepsakes.

 
Teens - Middle and High School
1 hour - 6 weeks/$100
Weekly session featuring interdisciplinary connections, art history, and technique.
 
Teen Painting - Middle and High School
1.5 hours - 6 weeks/$130
Weekly session focusing on painting fundamentals: color theory, techniques, and composition.
 

Mask Making for Teens - Ages 12 and up
1 hour - 6 weeks
Learn portrait sculpting techniques as you create an authentic theatrical mask in papier-maché!

 
Graphic Design - Kids, Teens, and Adults
1 hour - 6 weeks/$100
Six week course focusing on the fundamentals of computer graphic design.
 
Adult Intro to Painting - Beginners
1.5 hours - 6 weeks/$130
Weekly session introducing the true beginner to the fundamentals of painting and experimenting in watercolor, acrylic, and oils.
 
Adult Painting 1 & 2 - Beginner and Advanced
1.5 or 3 hour class - $130
Classes focus on media of choice.
 
Adult Drawing 1 & 2 - "I can't draw a straight line with a ruler."
6 weeks - $100
Weekly session for the beginner focusing on drawing fundamentals. Taught every semester. Check schedule or call studio for starting dates of upcoming sessions.
 
Printmaking - Teens and Adults
6 weeks - $130
Six week course introducing media to produce multiple copies of one image.
Lithography, etching, woodcut, and screen printing offered at various times during the semester.
 
Hand Building Pottery - Adults
1.5 hours - 6 weeks - $150
Fundamentals of hand-building pottery and glazing.
 

Adult Life Drawing - Adults
1.5 hours - 6 weeks
Study the basics of the human body with a combination of quick gesture drawings and longer poses. Learn to capture a person's essence, expression and movement by working from a live model.

 
Adult Portraiture - Adults
1.5 hours - 6 weeks - $130
Learn the fundamentals of portraiture and capturing a person's likeness. Students work in graphite, charcoal, and oil.
 

Adult Color Theory - Adults
1.5 hours - 6 weeks - $130
Learn how color enhances your paintings and drawings. Fundamentals of color mixing and usage in a variety of media.

 
Adult Studio - Call for dates
7:30-9pm - Free - Advanced Registration Required
Studio hours open to independent work.

Classes are based on a six weeks payment structure. Artist's Way is based on a 12 week payment structure. Kids, preschoolers and teens may join multimedia and painting classes at any time during the school year. Pottery and drawing classes for kids and all adult classes are based on a set six weeks period. Please call the studio for start dates on these classes.

*Due to high demand, advanced payment is recommended as we cannot guarantee your space in classes and/or workshops until payment is received.

 
Missed Classes:
Students may make up missed classes during the semester in which they were missed. Credits do not carry over semesters.
 
Refund Policy:
Refunds for classes and workshops are made in full if cancellation is received two weeks prior to the start date. If less than two weeks notice is given, credit can be used for other classes or workshops only during the same semester.
